MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Memphis Fire Department says a hazmat situation that shut down a Mid-South Emergency room Sunday evening was a false alarm.

For more than two hours just after 6 p.m., the Methodist University Hospital emergency room was closed to the public.

There were tense moments as MFD responded to a hazmat call at the hospital, where a FedEx employee drove herself to the emergency room after exposure to an unknown white substance at her job.

Officials confirmed that the substance was a food additive rather than a hazardous material.
