MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - On Saturday night, a man is fighting for his life after he was shot outside of a Checkers fast food restaurant at 5387 Winchester.
Heroically a woman rushed to his side to help him, and she thinks -- possibly keeping him from an even worse outcome.
Police are still searching for a suspect, the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. But what makes this story different than most is the fast food worker who ran to help moments after it happened.
It was supposed to be a normal Saturday for Renia Harris. In fact - it was until just after 6 p.m.
"He came to get a cup of water and about 15 minutes later I was in there talking and I seen a car speed out of the parking lot and I said "That's gonna have an accident," said Harris.
Without skipping a beat Harris ran across the street to help the man driving a green car.
"Sure he got shot in the back. I don't know the reason why he got shot,"
A nearby security guard called 911. Harris says the man had been shot in the back, while in the Checkers parking lot.
While the two waited for an ambulance, Harris provided comfort to the man she only just met minutes before.
"He was trying to maintain, I told him to start praying and he began praying and I prayed with him."
Police do not know what lead to the shooting. Harris says surveillance video did not reveal anything. Still, she says it is a day she will not soon forget.
"Didn't know how it was gonna happen, you never how God will set you up. And I just thank God I was able to pray for him."
Police are still searching for a suspect in this shooting. At last check the victim was in critical condition. Harris says he had a dog in the car at the time.
If you have any information that could lead to an arrest...you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
