SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC) - Search and rescue teams looked for any signs of a man who they believe fell overboard in McKellar Lake on Wednesday.

The man is believed to have taken off in his dinghy at the Riverside Marina. The search for the missing man began around 5:30 p.m. not long after he went out onto lake. The dinghy with no one in it was spotted not far the marina.

Marina employee Tom Slaughter said he saw the man in the boat pass by the marina. Employees called authorities and started looking around when they noticed no one was one the boat.

They did find the man's life jacket in the dinghy after searching for two hours.

Memphis police had a helicopter up searching, and harbor patrol and the coast guard were also out searching. At one point a dog that can smell differences in the water was also brought in to assist.

Employees say the missing man is a resident of the marina who had been there about six months.

Investigators say the search for the missing boater will continue in the morning. Divers could possibly be called in to help with the search.
