CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Citadel rising Junior Matt Van Scyoc, the teams leading scorer in the 2013-14 season will not be back with the Bulldogs next year after being dismissed from the team due to a violation of the schools honor code.

An official from The Citadel confirmed the news to Live 5 on Wednesday night although they were unable to say what the violation was.

In a message to Live 5 Sports, Van Scyoc would only say he was accused of a violation of the honor code and was found to be in violation. He then appealed the decision but was denied.

"I leave The Citadel having built some strong relationships with my coaches, teammates and fellow Citadel classmates" he said in the statement. "I will take all I have learned the last couple of years here with me to my new destination and wish nothing but great success for the team next season."

Van Scyoc, who came into The Citadel as one of the most highly anticipated recruits they've had in years, was the Bulldogs leading scorer his Sophomore season averaging over 14 points per game and was 2nd on the team in rebounds at over 5 per game.

His Freshman season the Wisconsin native was 2nd on the team in scoring at over 11 points per game and was selected to the SoCon All-Freshman team by both the leagues coaches and media.

The Bulldogs Head Coach Chuck Driesell has also had no comment.
