OVERTIME: Cienega Volleyball surviving and thriving

VAIL, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Cienega Boys Volleyball team blanked Palo Verde 3-0 Thursday night to continue their dream season.

The Bobcats, a program in turmoil that couldn't find a long term coach and was almost disbanded by its athletic department, are 22-5 and ranked fourth in the state.

Cienega Girls coach Heather Mott has rescued the program with a collection of strong powerful athletes from some of the school's other sports programs.

Four of the Bobcats six starters had never played volleyball competitively before this season.

The team is led by senior Alex Martinez, who is averaging three kills per set.

Mott who has coached girls volleyball for 17 seasons says coaching the Bobcats boys team is the most fun she has ever had.
