(WMC) – The public has the chance to weigh in on a bold and aggressive plan that's being called a game changer in turning around Shelby County Schools by 2025.

School leaders say the SCS Achievement Plan will need community investment to succeed and community involvement starts Tuesday night with a public meeting.

The plan that was approved includes "80, 90, and 100 percent goals" to be reached by the year 2025, the year the school's current class of first graders will graduate.

The goals of this plan are to get 80 percent of students either prepared for college or ready for a career, 90 percent of students to graduate and 100 percent of that 90 percent to attend college or a trade school.

The plan got the school board's unanimous approval during the meeting in April.

"This is not a kick the can down the road to 2025," said SCS Superintendent Dorsey Hopson. "We're going to have very specific strategies aimed at increasing student achievement every year."

The district will host two community meetings. The first meeting is Tuesday, May 13 at the SCS Board Auditorium at 160 South Hollywood Street. The second meeting is Thursday, May 15 at the Boys and Girls Club Technical Training Center at 903 Walker Avenue. Both meetings begin at 6 p.m.
