SOUTHAVEN, MS -
(WMC) - The man accused in the murder of a retired railroad worker waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Karl Justin Walls, 23, entered the courtroom on Wednesday dressed in a yellow jumpsuit and in shackles. He attempted to hide his face as he went into Southaven Criminal Court.

"He talked to his court appointed attorney and he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. So now he'll be bound over to the grand jury," said Southaven police officer lieutenant Mark Little.

Walls is accused of killing his neighbor 72-year-old Johnny Moore on May 6. Moore was a well-known and loved food bank, nursing home, and police department volunteer.

Police arrested Walls a week ago driving Moore's stolen SUV.

Walls remains locked up on a million dollar bond. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
