MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - Teams dealt with wet weather and cool temperatures as they set up shop for the Memphis in May World Championship Bar-B-Que Cooking Contest.

Josh Bickell, a competitor in this year's competition, said sleeping is not one of his top priorities.

"It's been a little chilly. The wind, the rain, it's kind of made a mess for us to sleep," said Bickell.

Bickell is staying at Tom Lee Park all week as he and his step-father, Ron Lyon, compete in the Bar-B-Que contest.

"At this point in time, we would have already had the tent up and ready to go. It's been a nightmare," said Lyon. "We have the electricians in there wiring things up as we are speaking."

Hundreds of tents are up ready for a week of cooking, eating, and competing. No matter what the weather holds, competitors said they are cracking down.

"Once we fire up the smoker it's pretty much, you're up all night cooking and competing. It gets pretty serious from this point on," said Bickell.

The cooking contest kicks off Thursday, May 15.
