MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - Memphis police are searching for two men who robbed an off-duty Memphis Police officer in the Evergreen area of North Memphis.

The house at 1152 Merchant Street is being renovated and rehabilitated. A contractor was at the house Monday morning to hang a new storm door on the property. While he was working, two men with guns robbed him and took off running.

According to police, the contractor hanging the door is an off-duty Memphis police officer.

Witnesses on scene tell WMC Action News 5 the victim chased down one suspect and managed to get back his stolen propertyhis wallet and his cell phone.

Nobody was hurt during the robbery.

Floyd Christian, who spent 33 years in the military, lives down the street.

"That's mighty bold of someone to rob a cop," said Christian. "I hope they catch him."
