(WMC) - As the Memphis Grizzlies prepare for what is looking more and more like the eminent departure of their head coach, it begs the question of 'who's next?'
Jason Levien and Stu Lash have already been shown the door, and Dave Joerger looks poised to be the Timberwolves next coach. That leaves vice president of basketball operations, John Hollinger.
The former ESPN analyst was brought in by Levien to use his Statistical Analysis skills in helping the organization in scouting and decision making.
The inventor of the Player efficiency rating system, Hollinger had been reporting directly to Levien.
Interim GM Chris Wallace says for now, the analytics man is still part of the team.
"I have a great relationship with job, and immense respect," said Wallace. "He is one of the foremost practitioners in the analytics field. His expertise in basketball is not just related to the numbers side. He definitely knows the game, is very well connected. I worked with him last year in the pre draft process, so I am well acquainted with his work, the quality of it, as I told him, I can't wait to get started with you and I think we can have a great future here and achieve our goals."
As for Joerger, CBS Sports.com reports the Grizzlies will ask for a second round pick from the Timberwolves as compensation for letting the Grizzlies coach out of his contract.
Joerger is set to meet with Minnesota Owner Glen Taylor this weekend.
