Northwest Fire Hotshot crews continue to help fight Slide Fire

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Hotshot crews from Northwest Fire are still helping to battle the Slide Fire.

But things are looking up; The fire near Oak Creek Canyon was reported to be 75 percent contained on Friday.

The fire is still smoldering in and around Oak Creek Canyon and crews are working along the Slide Fire's perimeter while interior areas of the fire continue to smolder.

There are now just over 500 firefighters and other personnel assigned to the fire, which is less than half of the peak staffing.

Approximately 33 square miles have burned in the last 10 days, according to officials. It's believed to be human-caused and remains under investigation.

    The Pinery Fire in Cochise County remains at 1,200 acres as of 6 p.m. Friday, May 18 and is 80 percent contained, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.
