TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

If Sahuaro High Baseball grad Alex Verdugo ('14) is anything, he's confident.

Verdugo believes that whether he's selected as a pitcher or a hitter in this week's Major League Baseball Amateur draft, he will get to the big leagues.

There's no question his name should be called sometime in the first three rounds, but where he will play positionally will depend on the team that call his name.

Verdugo is a two-way player with team's scouting him as a hitter and team's scouting him as a pitcher.

The left-hander batted .486 in his four-year Cougar career with 178 hits in 119 games. Meanwhile on the hill, he posted 27 victories in 46 appearances with 401 career strikeouts.

If the draft process does not work out to his liking, Verdugo has signed a letter of intent to play collegiately at Arizona State.
