Mt. Pleasant Kopech selected by Boston in MLB draft

MT. PLEASANT, TX (KSLA) -

Mount Pleasant right handed pitcher Michael Kopech was at a loss for words when he heard his name called across an internet feed inside the Titus County Civic Center Thursday night. He was selected 33rd overall in the Major League Baseball draft by the Boston Red Sox. It was a dream come true.

"I was speechless," said Kopech. "I cried. My mom was the first person I went to when I heard my name."

Many mock drafts projected Kopech would land in Boston as a late first round draft pick.

"This is something I've been working towards for the last three years."

Kopech was committed to play baseball at Arizona. His fastball reaches 97 miles per hour.
