SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC) - Shelby County Schools is addressing payroll complaints. Many teachers took to social media Friday to air their concerns.

One wrote on Facebook, "Ok SCS teachers, did anyone else NOT get paid today?????? Getting in my car and driving to the board!!!!"

A chain on another page included comments like "Messed up my budgeting," "Unacceptable," and "Now we have to reconfigure everything!!"

Most of the complaints came from teachers who are leaving SCS to join municipal school districts, because, in many cases, they want to remain at their current schools.

"We have a communication department, and it's our job to over-communicate and get the proper message out," said board chairman Kevin Woods. "So, if there's any confusion, we have to take responsibility for it."

Woods said the issue is not that the district missed payments, but that end dates differ for different employees.

"It really is just communicating with the teachers as far as when their exit date is, and that will determine when they'll get their last paycheck," he said.

According to the district, remaining paychecks should be received between now and July 18; anyone with questions can contact the school board.
