MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - Memphis police are investigating a mysterious homicide in a busy apartment complex. The most obvious evidence left behind - a footprint.

Friday night, police responded to a call about men arguing and shots fired at Cinnamon Trails Apartments in the 3300 block of Knight Trails Circle in Hickory Hill.

"There was a bunch of police cars and they were around here asking people questions like, what happened and who was arguing," said Justin Malone.

Authorities say when officers arrived, they found the front door of the apartment partially opened.

When they entered the apartment on Friday night, officers found 39-year-old Derek Adams lying on the floor in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. Adams was pronounced dead on the scene.

When WMC Action News 5 visited the apartment on Saturday there was a footprint on the door; perhaps from kicking it in. Also, the door knob was missing and wood shavings could be seen on the ground.

Neighbors say they cannot imagine why someone would have done this.

"Man, it's crazy. We've got kids, you know," added Malone.

Police have no suspect description at this time. If you can help solve this crime, Memphis police want you to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH (2247) or visit the Crime Stoppers website here: http://memphis.crimestoppersweb.com/.
