MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - A man rescued from the Wolf River has died.

At 2:15 Saturday afternoon, Memphis and Germantown Fire Department responded to a call regarding a person missing in the Wolf River near Humphreys Boulevard and Germantown Parkway.

The victim's family told investigators the family of four was kayaking, when the father capsized.

The family called 911, ran up to the road and flagged down help.

An off-duty officer nearby responded and searchers went downstream where the Memphis Fire Department joined the search at Walnut Grove Road and Humphreys Boulevard.

When responders arrived, Memphis Police Air Support joined the search and the victim's kayak was located. Traffic was jammed as rescuers looked for him near Interstate 240.

The victim was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis in critical condition and died in the emergency room.

The victim's identity will not be released until the extended family is notified.

Responders say that section of the Wolf River is inaccessible and the current is swift.
