The heat and humidity South Georgia is dealing with can be dangerous. Public health officials urge everyone to spend as much time in air conditioned buildings as possible.

If you have to be outside, try to limit your time in the heat of the day and wear light-colored clothes

"We're expected to have really warm temperatures throughout the day," said Southwest Health District Health Director Dr. JacQueline Grant. "It's important to note that when it's humid like it is here. You can't evaporate the sweat as well which is what cools you off."

Dr. Grant also reminds you to drink plenty of fluids, but warns that really cold drinks can cause cramps.

Also be careful not to leave children or pets in cars.
