HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville leaders broke ground for new a shopping center on Wednesday morning.

One of the big stores coming to the location is Whole Foods Market. The shopping center is called The Shops at Merchants Walk. It's part of the city's effort to spark growth up and down Memorial Parkway.

The big store in the center will be Whole Foods. The mayor said the store fits in with our Healthy Huntsville initiative, and many people have requested a Whole Foods store in the city. The store is expected to bring up to 200 jobs.

The center is located along Memorial Parkway from Bob Wallace Avenue to Parkway Place Mall. Shoppers will park in a two-story parking garage.

Other stores to be included in the center include Maki Fresh Sushi Rolls and Japanese Grill, Mountain High Outfitters and Orangetheory Fitness.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
