MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - It was a gorgeous day to be outside and for some on Saturday, July 5, it was record breaking.

The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy organized a slip and slide competition where volunteers attempted to break the Guinness World record for the greatest distance traveled on a continuous slip and slide.

Officials from Guinness were there to log the distance in the one hour attempt.

"Boise State set a record in 2010 that was about 3,500 feet so we're aiming for 4,000," said Rebecca Dailey.

The mission was accomplished, and Memphis is the new slip and slide champ. Though fun, the competition was a lot of work. It took a few weeks to get the layout just right and organizers say Memphis Pool helped construct and design it.
