(WMC) – The summer heat can be unbearable to many people in the Mid-South and on Tuesday free air conditioners will be available to those most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

MLGW and organizers at the Neighborhood Christian Center are teaming up for the "Play It Cool" air conditioner giveaway. Donations are making this much needed help possible.

There are currently 50 donated AC units available to low-income seniors or disabled residents.

All applicants must be Shelby County residents. Applicants must also be a low income senior 60 years of age or older and must not have received an air conditioner from the "Play It Cool" program within the last three years.

Make sure you have your driver's license or state issued ID, your most recent pay stub or social security income statement. If you have a physical disability, but don't meet the age requirement, you must bring paperwork to prove your disability.

If you come without the aforementioned items, you could be turned away.

This is the first step in the process. Organizers of this program will still have to verify that you meet the guidelines and eventually visit your home to make sure it meets installation requirements.

The program gets started at 9 a.m. and will go on until 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8 at the Neighborhood Christian Center, located at 785 Jackson Avenue.
