MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - Police say young children called 911, rescuing their mom from a domestic dispute and putting her husband behind bars Tuesday night.

The incident took place inside of a North Memphis home on Vollintine Drive.

According to police, George Love, 42, came home drunk and started beating his wife, Valisha Love. Police say the incident took place in front of the kids.

"It's been multiple times police been called over there," Neighbor Shakara Hawkins said.

In the police affidavit, it says Love hit his wife in the back and stomach, and then started choking her. The children reportedly called 911 for help.

"Children are very honest, therefore we get the straight forward of what's going on," YWCA Executive Director Jacquelyn Williams said.

Williams says many of the domestic violence cases handled by the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter involve children, and that often times kids are forced to make adult situations. She says in this situation, the kids made the right decision.

"Sometimes it's hard for a woman to make that decision, but in any event always try to get the police involved, and never get involved yourself," Williams said.
