MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - Shelby County Sheriff's detectives arrested two women on Wednesday and accused them of stealing more than $1,600 worth of merchandise from Oak Court Mall.

Andrea Brown, 27, and Natika Craft, 31, were arrested and charged with theft of property.

Police say the women stole merchandise from 12 stores inside the mall, hiding items in their purses and making multiple trips back to a car before re-entering the mall.

"I don't go that often anymore. I think it's a mixture of things, not just the shoplifting," says Anna Michael, who says she grew up near Oak Court Mall.

Michael says she thinks measures need to be made to in order to promote a safer atmosphere.

"Getting the employees of the certain stores to be better trained and watching for those types of things," says Michael.
