MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - The number of firefighters calling in sick is down from Saturday's number.

On Sunday, Memphis Fire Department reports 60 firefighters called in sick, much less than the 80 that called in Saturday.

The so-called "Red Rash" is much like the "Blue Flu" with city workers calling in sick in demonstration of cuts made by the city council to their health care benefits.

Thomas Malone with the Memphis Fire Fighters Association says they have even had workers quit.

"We had three quit this week. Every time somebody leaves this job, we're letting $100,000 to $300,000 of training walk out the door," said Malone. "That's tax dollars also.

WMC Action News 5 reached out to the fire department Sunday for comment on the spike, but we have not heard back as of yet.
