GERMANTOWN, TN -

(WMC) - Sunday afternoon, a jogger running along the train tracks in Germantown was killed.

By all accounts, officials say it appears to be a tragic accident as of Sunday.

Just before 4 p.m., Whitney Hughes heard a train passing. She didn't think anything of it until police cars started showing up.

"The train had pulled up right as we came outside. Within a minute it had fully stopped and came up," Hughes said.

Germantown police say a man was jogging on the tracks when he was hit and killed. The train stopped a short time later, in front of Hughes home.

Hughes says neighbors see joggers on the track, where trains pass at least 10 times a day, more often than you might think.

"Every day we'll see somebody, at least once a day," Hughes added.

The train and Sunday's tragedy are reminders to her 1- and 3-year-old to stay away from the tracks.

"The train being so close, we have to remind our children every day that the train is right there," she said.

Officials released the name of the jogger Monday: http://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/26012990/jogger-hit-by-train-identified-was-listening-to-music-with-earphones.
