SOUTH MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - There was no power in the neighborhood at Elliston and Perry roads in South Memphis Monday night.

There are downed trees on power lines and vehicles, but no one was hurt.

Everybody in the neighborhood told WMC Action News 5 pretty much the same story—they've never seen rain that hard. After several minutes of hail, everything moved out.

Shingles were ruffled, several trees were down, and power was out.

"It was something else. The wind was blowing. I mean it just came all of a sudden," resident Alvin McCool said.

A sky calm and peaceful one moment, unleashed an outbreak the next.

"It hailed for about 10 minutes. Penny-sized hail," Stephens added.

"The wind came so high. Got all the power out in the whole neighborhood. I live right around the corner, got shingles off. Everything. Just chaos," Stephens said.

Laverrious Clark was at work when it hit but got a phone call from his brother.

"He said, 'Well man, you can get [...] you a new van, because the tree done fell on your van,' " Clark said.

The van can be replaced, but what wasn't in the way of the fallen timber has those residents counting their blessings.

"I just thank God there wasn't no one under the tree, everything like that, and I thank God it didn't hit the house," Clark added.
