A Better Mid-South: Sharing your thoughts on health care cuts

MEMPHIS, TN -

Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Action News 5 general manager:

(WMC) - The cuts to health care benefits for Memphis city workers and retirees that then led to an apparent work slow down dubbed the "Blue Flu" and "Red Rash" have dominated the community conversation over the past few weeks.

My comments praising the police officers and firefighters who did not call in sick sparked some pointed responses on both sides.

One viewer wrote, "I totally disagree with you. The firefighters and police officers have every right to stand up for what is right and if that means calling in sick then that's great. "

Another viewer felt differently, "Thank you so much for your positive comments today about the officers and firefighters who continue to report for duty in spite of the peer pressures and overwhelmingly loud recommendations of others."

If you would like to add your comments, email me abettermidsouth@wmctv.com or like my Facebook page and post a comment.

A healthy sharing of opinions about the health care cuts will make this A Better Memphis and a Better Mid-South.
