SCA spreading wings to GICAA

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Sherwood Christian Eagles decided to fly the coop of the GISA last season to join the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association. They'll begin their first year in the league in 2014.

It's unchartered territory for Otis Covington and the Eagles. One thing is for sure: this team has some talent.

Former WALB Player of the Week Chris Thomas returns at quarterback for SCA, and Covington says the cast around him will allow for even more big plays.

He says it's all going to come down to who the Eagles play as they learn this new region somewhat on the fly.

"I think we have a chance to be really good. The one thing is we don't know a lot about the teams we're playing. We've never really seen any of them on film before," Covington says. "Hopefully, we're good enough to be competitive. We definitely have a talented team. For us, it's going to be about the teams we play and the depth in the third and fourth quarter if we can sustain our level of play."

The Eagles kick off the GICAA era August 29 when they host Glenwood.
