Trojans not intimidated by 1-AAAAAA

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - The Lee County Trojans won only their second region title in program history in 2013, but are walking into new territory this season.

The Trojans are moving up to 1-AAAAAA for the 2014 season, where nothing is easy.

Head coach Dean Fabrizio says his team is up for the challenge.

He says the Trojans have more starters returning than ever before, and after recent success, this bunch won't back down from the state powers.

"Coming off back to back winning seasons, and a ten win season last year, I just think the confidence of our kids is really high," he says. "That's one thing we've been able to develop more and more. As our kids have gotten used to winning more games, we've developed more and more confidence."

The Trojans return several starters on both sides of the ball, but did lose a senior class including three Division I players to graduation.

Fabrizio says the team not only must replace their production, but their off field leadership as well.

"The thing that we're really looking at it is someone to step up and fill that leadership void those guys left. Our guys last year got our guys playing really really hard," he says. "That's what we've go to be able to do this year, realize that the reason we've had success is because of how hard we've practiced and played and for new guys to step up and set that example."

They'll open the 2014 campaign on Saturday, August 23 against Westover. That game will be on ESPNU.
