ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the names of the four people injured in the two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 69 just north of Zavalla Wednesday.

According to a DPS press release, the accident occurred at approximately 11:05 a.m. Wednesday about two miles north of Zavalla.

DPS Trooper Marc Slocum said Marvin Lyle Smith, 89, of Houston, was driving north on U.S. 69 when he attempted to make a U-turn to get to a drive way on the opposite side of the road. A northbound 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Tommy Ray Sandford, 76, of Colmesneil tried to pass the MKS and struck it on its side.

Smith and Winona Louise Labrant, 83, were taken by ambulance to Lufkin's Memorial Hospital. Tommy Sandford was airlifted to a Tyler hospital for treatment of leg injuries. Margaret Sandford, 82, of Colmesneil, was taken to Lufkin's Memorial Hospital. Margaret Sandford was a passenger in the Grand Marquis.

A previous East Texas News story stated that all four accident victims were conscious and alert when they were taken to area hospitals.
