Unauthorized guests in the kitchen

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

You might not think twice about letting friends and family keep you company while you're cooking in the kitchen. But it's a big no-no for restaurants. A health inspector reported seeing it happen in an Italian restaurant.

The kitchen was Mimmo's at 8319 Bell Creek Road in Hanover. It had a whopping 8 critical violations, plus another 15 non-critical. The report says unauthorized personnel such as children or customers were in the kitchen. When the inspector returned two weeks later, the unauthorized guests were gone and all critical violations were corrected, but five non-criticals were repeated.

Eight critical was the magic number at Honolulu Barbeque in Chesterfield Towne Center, too. The inspector wrote that an employee didn't wash their hands after handling trash and raw chicken, before returning to prepare food. But everything was corrected except for one non-critical on their follow-up inspection.

Ho Wah Chinese Restaurant at 6323 Jahnke Road in Richmond had 4 critical violations, including that chicken and shrimp in the walk-in cooler were not being kept cold enough. The inspector told them to move it to a fridge that maintains 41 degrees. They did and corrected all violations on the spot.
