MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A witness called Memphis Police Department after hearing several gunshots near Sherwood Middle School.

Shelby County Schools say they briefly placed the middle school on lockdown as Memphis police officers investigated the shooting. Sherwood Middle School is located near the intersection of Rhodes Avenue and Prescott Street.

The lockdown has since been lifted and classes let out on schedule at 3:15 p.m.

According to MPD, a man in his early 20s arrived at Delta Medical Center with a gunshot wound. He is listed in non-critical condition and currently believed to be a victim of whatever happened near Prescott Street.
