MS lawmakers request federal disaster declaration

(WMC) - Mississippi lawmakers are urging President Barack Obama to issue a disaster declaration for December's tornadoes.

Five people died from the severe weather that hit Mississippi near the end of December. Dozens of homes and businesses were damaged.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant is asking for a major federal disaster declaration, which would supply money and low-interest loans for victims.

The state's congressional delegation is asking the White House to quickly approve the request.
