Mid-South school districts prepare for cold weather

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Mid-South school district leaders are deciding what to do as sub-freezing temperatures move in to the area.

Your child's safety is the number one concern and Mid-South school districts are making sure parents are not left in the dark when extreme weather hits.

School closings and early dismissals are based on both existing weather conditions and predictions.

Shelby County Schools currently uses the district's website, the My SCS Mobile App, and its social media pages to alert parents and students about delays and closings.

Wednesday afternoon, the district is planning a press conference at 2:00 to discuss its cancellation policies.

At least two municipalities have listed procedures on their websites.

Germantown Municipal School District says if decisions are made during overnight hours parents and guardians will receive a text, email, or phone call an hour and a half before the school's start time. Information will also be posted on its social media sites.

Bartlett City Schools implemented a ParentLink System to alert parents to school closures. So make sure your information is up to date.

You can also stay informed with school closures on the WMC Action News 5 app.

When you open it, click on the top left corner and then click on closings. That page will be updated as WMC Action News 5 receives closing information.
