MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The biting cold weather is not something Mid-Southerners are used to and residents rushed to area stores to stock up on supplies.

"We're making chili," said Melissa Luka. "It will keep us warm and keep us fed and we won't have to go anywhere."

Luka joined other shoppers at Cash Saver in Midtown who are preparing for the frigid weather, where the bread aisle has been restocked four times.

Cash Saver Assistant Manager Taylor James says worried friends are calling him to find out if the store had run out of bread.

"He was concerned that we would run out, not have any more because of the cold weather," said James.

However, stores like Home Depot ran out of indoor heaters and faucet covers.

"It's been a wild day people rushing in heaters faucet covers, wood all kinds of different things like that," said Reco Watson.

Plumbers like Eddie Nelius may soon be very busy.

"We will probably see frozen lines tonight, tomorrow, the next day," said Nelius.

Nelius says to allow indoor faucets to trickle, and keep the doors open to cabinets, especially if your plumbing is next to an exterior wall.
