SOMERVILLE, TN (WMC) - Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville, Tennessee will close, according to an announcement made by Methodist Healthcare on Thursday. The hospital is slated to close on Friday, March 27.
"It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that we are closing one of our hospitals, Methodist Fayette Hospital, which has been part of the Methodist family since 1980," said Gary Shorb, CEO for Methodist Healthcare, in a written statement. "Unfortunately, over the last few years, inpatient volume has declined significantly, and the hospital has been averaging a daily inpatient census of approximately one patient, which is simply not sustainable."
According to the announcement, Methodist Recruitment will help hospital employees find other opportunities within its system, as well as offer support with external job searches.
"We want to be transparent in our decision making and provide the community and our Associates as much notice as possible," Shorb added.
Hospital officials will coordinate with ambulance services and first responders to ensure there is a plan in place for quick care in the area.
