SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC) - Shoppers are anticipating the grand opening of the Mid-South's only outlet mall. Tanger's Outlets will bring 70 stores, three restaurants, and a hotel to Southaven.
A similar outlet mall can be found in Alabama. But so far, the list of stores coming to the Mid-South outlet mall are a secret.
"If it's an outlet mall, I might be alright with it," said Brian Williams. "She [his wife] may be able to save a little bit."
Traffic concerns are on the minds of many, though. The outlet is expected to be a destination for people from as many as six nearby states.
"It's already bad on Church Road with the civic center and everything going on there, but yeah, that's going to be a nice congested area there," added Williams.
Right now, plans are to have entrances on Airways Boulevard rather than Church Road, but Mayor Darren Musselwhite says the city is working with highway leaders on the plans.
"The goal is to have it complete by shopping season of 2015, this year, so we expect to see dirt move in the next couple of weeks," the mayor said.
Debbie Britt cannot wait to see the outlet mall open.
"Southaven's growing and growing and we can use it, we can use more outlet stores," she said.
