MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A driveway robbery can happen in a split second. One moment you're walking to your car, and the next, you could find yourself face-to-face with a stranger demanding your wallet or purse.
It's a crime that has become all too familiar in the Mid-South. So, what can you do to make sure you're not the next victim?
"When I pull up and park I do look around. When I'm going to my car in the dark I'm always looking around," said Germantown resident Jonna Danis.
One victim, who asked to remain anonymous, described what was perhaps the most frightening moment of her life.
"He grabbed my shoulder and pushed me with the gun," she said. "He was holding the gun to my face and when we got in, he pointed the gun and he kept saying, 'Wallet, wallet. All I want is your wallet.'"
Police say the suspect likely followed the woman home. And she is not the only victim to this kind of crime.
"I could have really gotten killed," said 91-year-old Willie Mae Dowdy, who was robbed inside her own home. "I just believe the good Lord is protecting me."
Last month, two similar robberies occurred just one day apart in East Memphis.
