MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - It's hard for students at Houston High School to believe student resource officer Shelby County Deputy William Franks could be accused of anything inappropriate.
"All of the students have been really upset about it and really just surprised," said student Emily Trethem.
Since news broke of the investigation into misconduct by Deputy Franks, students have been jumping to his defense.
"He has always been such a cool guy, very genuine, very helpful," said student Nina Ziomek.
A look inside of his Shelby County Sheriff's Office personnel file shows a clean record for the deputy. Handwritten notes are even included detailing how helpful Deputy Franks has been.
Since 1994 Franks has passed every evaluation. He was only suspended without pay once back in 2010.
No reason was given for that suspension.
On his most recent evaluation, the evaluator did note, "Officer Franks should not become complacent as an SRO."
One parent, who wanted to remain anonymous, says a squeaky clean record doesn't mean much.
She commented, "Just because he wasn't ever caught doing anything and he doesn't have a record doesn't mean he can't be an undercover creep."
Neither the Germantown Police Department nor the Shelby County Sheriff's Office would comment about the investigation. They would only say it is still ongoing.
