MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis leaders touted the "Bluff City" in the "Big Apple" Wednesday night, building off brand new buzz from the New York Times.
The Grizzlies met the Nets at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. But the Memphis Chamber was also looking to "score" by hosting New York business executives in a double suite during the game.
"You know, we have a lot to sell," said chamber CEO Phil Trenary. "And a lot of the people who make the decisions are in this city, so that's why we're here."
The chamber's recruitment trip comes as Memphis gets a lot of love from a five minute video released by The New York Times entitled "36 Hours In Memphis."
"It highlights our food, our culture, and our music," said BBQ Shop Owner Eric Vernon. "Which is something I think we've gotten away from with the bad publicity."
The BBQ Shop was among the places the Times took time to visit. The National Civil Right Museum was another, as was Paula Raiford's Disco.
The video has been shared hundreds of times on Twitter alone.
"There are so many good things about Memphis," said Vernon. "And I think it should be a good destination point for a lot of people."
That includes more businesses if the chamber's game-plan pays off.
"What we think will come out of this is just the affirmation that they do need to be looking at Memphis," said Trenary.
