MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Looking to score some great shopping deals? January is a great time to find those sales, but there are also some buys you should avoid making this month.
The website DealNews.com says stores are already slashing prices on winter wear as they stock the shelves for spring.
January and February are also great months for electronic markdowns. Look for big deals on name brand TVs as we get closer to the Super Bowl.
Fitness equipment is also on sale now; stores stocked up at Christmas and want it gone by spring.
But DealNews.com also says there are some things you should not buy in January, like grills and patio equipment. Stores cleared out last year's stuff back in the fall. They' re now stocking up with full price merchandise.
Another buy to avoid right now, suitcases. It's a peak selling season for travel gear and luggage markdowns usually start in March.
And if you're looking for new furniture, wait until Presidents Day weekend in February. DealNews says that's when you can expect the biggest furniture and appliance sales of the year.
