MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Carjackers stole a man's 2000 Lincoln LS on Lamar Avenue just after midnight Tuesday. The victim says three men approached him with a gun after he hit something in the roadway.

Police say the carjackers used a new trick to stop the driver so they could steal his car.

"Crooks always inventing something new to get you, so you have to be aware," said Dan Wolf, a driver who was shocked to hear what happened.

The victim told police he was approached once he got out of his car to see what he had hit. After a man with a gun tried to rob him, he ran. That's when the three men took off in his car.

"Well, if I could swerve around it I would, but I'm more or less going to try to see what's this. I'm afraid to run it over, you know, it could be a person or something important someone dropped or something," Wolf added. "It could happen to anybody, just have to be aware and be careful."

The suspect is described as a man with dreadlocks, wearing a white shirt, and black or gray sweatpants. He was armed with a silver and black handgun. He could be driving the stolen car, a 2000 Lincoln LS with the Tennessee plate number 904-SWL.
