Woman charged in Dixie's dognapping posts bond

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The woman charged in a dognapping that made international headlines appeared in court on Tuesday.

Lynda Hinkley, who posted bond on Tuesday morning, is charged with accessory after the fact. But, she is only one of the people police believe to be involved in Dixie's dognapping.

Surveillance video shows a man grabbing Dixie out of the family's car by the neck, then throwing the little dog into the backseat of another car. Dixie's owners, who were visiting from Canada during Elvis' birthday, were inside a restaurant eating dinner when it happened.

After a heartfelt plea for Dixie's return, Mid-Southerners jumped into action, reporting Dixie sightings and offering to help in any way they could.

Aziz Jaleel watched on TV as Dixie was reunited with her family. He said he had no idea one of the people accused in the dognapping lived right next door to him.

"I'm just surprised they are involved in this," he said.

Police are still searching for the two men captured on surveillance video stealing Dixie from her owners' car on Elvis Presley Boulevard.

Meanwhile, Lynda Hinkley is expected back in court on February 11.

If you know anything about the men seen in the video, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH, text 'AWARD' to 274637 or visit www.528cash.org.
