A former Shelby County Sheriff's Office detective will spend six years in prison after sexually assaulting a woman involved in a domestic violence case.
In July 2011, the 22-year-old victim told police that James Bishof, 61, told her to undress in a women's bathroom at 201 Poplar so he could take photographs to document injuries to her body. Later, he said he needed to come by her home with a better camera to take more pictures. While at her house, the victim said he took photos and touched her inappropriately while making sexual remarks.
Bishof pleaded guilty on Tuesday to official oppression and assault involving offensive contact. As part of the plea agreement, which was approved by the victim, he was sentenced to six years in prison for official oppression and six months for the assault.
