SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC) - A Southaven church is dealing with vandalism. So far, prayer has not stopped it.
Pastor Damon Noel, said "I hope we don't come in one day and find the church burned down or a lot of equipment stolen."
The Garden of Grace Church has been in a Southaven neighborhood for seven years. Members have seen a lot of damage in that time.
"They broke both the windows out of the sanctuary, came in laid everything down. They didn't take equipment," recalled Noel.
Someone shot out the windows of the church bus. One day, church member and maintenance man, Joe Dillard, came to work and found the letters on the church sign rearranged into vulgar words. Cars in the parking lot have been broken into.
The neighborhood recently put up signs warning criminals and the police know about the church crimes.
The church is small with 50 members. There is not a lot of money to put up security like lighting.
Noel says, "I don't know what to do."
The Noels and church members just want to exist in peace, and they welcome their neighbors.
"It frustrates me," Dillard commented. "It makes me very mad because we're trying to do for the community and our family church."
