MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Shots were fired into a Memphis house Thursday morning, sending bullets just feet from where two babies were sleeping.
Memphis police officers responded to the shooting in the 3500 block of Vanuys Road, near Sherwood Middle School.
Police say it all started over an argument. The suspect reportedly went to the home and shot a man when he answered the door.
"I got a call from my older sister telling me that my nephew had been shot," said the victim's aunt, Lorraine Evans, who rushed to check on her nephew, Deangelo Vanhook, 22. "No one deserves to get shot," said Evans.
She says her 1-year old and 7-month-old nephews were sleeping inside. Neither were hit.
Tyra Staton was across the street visiting friends when the shooting happened.
"There was some beef going on between two people and one of the guys came and knocked on the door and started shooting," Staton said.
Staton's brother was able to help the victim to a nearby fire station. From there, he was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
Police identified a suspect in the shooting but have not yet made an arrest.
Shelby County Schools says Sherwood Middle School was put on a brief lockdown on Thursday morning.
