Stolen school computers found inside Memphis motel

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Inn on American Way was the last stop for a suspected school burglar, who was busted Thursday when officers acted on an anonymous tip.

"Low and behold, when they walked inside, they saw computers and keyboards everywhere," said Shelby Co. Sheriff's Office spokesman Chip Washington.

Lederrius Brown, 19, admitted to stealing a dozen Apple desktop computers from Germantown High School alone.

"And through exchanging information, we found there were similar burglaries in DeSoto County," Washington added.

In fact, DeSoto County Sheriff's Office released surveillance photos earlier in the week showing who appeared to be Brown and another man inside Center Hill Elementary School. Both Southaven and Olive Branch police departments have worked similar burglaries.

Brown told investigators he had an accomplice when he got into the building at Germantown High School through an unlocked door.

According to court records, that burglary occurred around 11 p.m. Monday. The computers were swiped from the school library.

"We are still doing an internal investigation," said SCS Board Member Shante Avant. "And until we have all the facts, it would be hard for me to make a comment about any of the incidents that happened."

Investigators said computers recovered at the motel were stamped with either "Property of Shelby County" or "DeSoto County Schools."  They
believe a number had already been sold.

Suspect Lederrius Brown is being held on a $50,000 bond.  His alleged accomplice remains at large.
