MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Two people are dead, another is in custody, and still another is on the run after an argument escalated at a strip mall in Raleigh.
Police say they found a man dead in the parking lot in front of Magic Tax Company. They originally thought the man worked at Magic Tax Company, but soon confirmed he was an employee at Yale Discount Tobacco Shop.
The shop's owner says the man's name is Bryant McKinney. He also says McKinney has teenage son and a fiancee that's pregnant.
"Everybody knew him," shop owner Isham Mutanna said. "He'd been working here since we opened the store.
Police say McKinney followed some people out of the store. The group came inside to use the bathroom and at some point an argument happened.
"They didn't even buy something," Mutanna said. "They came in, went to the bathroom, and walked out. And he just followed them outside. They didn't buy anything; they didn't take anything."
Police say McKinney walked up to a gold Nissan Altima and leaned in to talk to the driver. Suddenly, someone inside the car fired a gun, forcing McKinney backwards, but not before he returned fire into the car. The Nissan then sped off.
"Everybody is taking it pretty hard," Darryl Nash said. "It's just a hard area. There's a lot of nonsense coming through here."
A few minutes after the shooting in Raleigh, a gold Nissan Altima arrived at Methodist North Hospital. One of the people in the car was dead. Police detained a second person who was in the car. A third person--believed to have been inside the car during the initial shooting--ran from the hospital.
Police are still searching for that suspect.
