Riverkings host more than 5,000 kids on Face Off Field Trip

Who ever thought going to a Hockey Game could be educational? The Mississippi RiverKings, that's who.

The 'Kings brought in more than 5,000 school children to the Landers Center Tuesday morning for their Southern Professional Hockey League game against the Columbus Cottonmouths.

It's their second Face Off Field Trip this season, as students from around the Mid-South cheered for their team and got lessons in different school subjects throughout the contest.

The RiverKings jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead, which included a goal from reigning SPHL Player of the Week Leo Thomas.

The RiverKings romped to a 5-1 win. Mississippi, now 18-15-2, next skates against Pensacola Friday Night at the Landers Center in Southaven.
