Mark Giannini charged with raping 19-year-old at gunpoint in 2002

Giannini charged with raping woman in her own apartment in 2002

SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Eads, Tennessee businessman Mark Giannini faces charges after he held a teen at gunpoint and raped her in her own apartment 12 years ago.

District Attorney General Amy Weirich says the recent indictment brings Giannini's charges of rape and aggravated rape to three. The most recent indictment corresponds to an accusation made recently for a crime that allegedly happened in 2002. The other two charges are connected to assaults that reportedly happened in the last two years. All three women worked for Giannini.

The most recent indictment says Giannini raped a 19-year-old employee at gunpoint at the Registry Apartments in Cordova. That case was reported to police last summer following publicity about Giannini's first arrest.

In his first arrest, Giannini was charged with sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman, after she says she went with him to his home in June 2014
for a job interview. In that case, he was charged with three counts of aggravated rape and released on $150,000 bond.

In the second case, Giannini is accused of raping a 23-year-old employee in his home in September 2013.

According to graphic court records, investigators say Giannini forced one victim to swallow urine, feces, and blood.

Investigators executed a search warrant last July that produced 20 toothbrushes, eight flash drives, four guns, nipple clamps, sex toys, lingerie,
and other items at his home.

Earlier this month, Giannini was arrested in Pinellas County, Florida. His attorney, Steve Farese, says Giannini was returned to Memphis on Tuesday night.

In past interviews, Farese has told WMC Action News 5 that his client has done nothing illegal. He maintained his client's innocence when WMC Action News 5 talked to him Wednesday.

"It's just terrible, but it's also terrible for somebody to be accused of raping somebody when they didn't do it," Ballin said.

A February 10 hearing has been set to determine whether his bond will be increased for the other two indictments.
