Former pastor found guilty of sex crimes against children

RIPLEY, TN (WMC) - A Lauderdale County jury found a former pastor guilty of sex crimes against children.

Larry Michael Berkley was indicted in June 2014 on the following charges: two counts of rape, four counts of statutory rape by an authority figure, four counts of sexual battery by an authority figure, and four counts of aggravated statutory rape.

The crimes took place against three children over a 2-year period. When he was arrested, he was officiating a graveside service in Covington, Tennessee. He was formerly the pastor at Victory Baptist Church in Henning.

Berkley's trial, which was held in Ripley, lasted two days. The jury found him guilty as charged in the 14-count indictment.

The former pastor faces similar sex charges involving multiple children in Arkansas. It was the investigation into those charges that led to charges in Tennessee. Berkley will go to trial in Arkansas on March 30, 2015.
